Sansankai: A Year in Review (Part 1)

To celebrate the auspicious beginning of Reiwa 7, the event opened with a soulful performance by Taiko drummer TAKERU. His dignified presence and the powerful, resonant beats of the drums truly set the stage for a new year.

Next, we welcomed Kaori Funaki of "Mizuhiki Art Kimusubi." Her journey into this craft began when she was touched by the beauty of the Mizuhiki (decorative cord) on her own engagement gifts. During the hands-on workshop, we all discovered that while it looks easy, it is quite a challenge! The room was filled with laughter as everyone tried their best. I highly recommend visiting her solo exhibitions.

We were also joined by Mr. Hirata, the head of "Kaiseki Suigetsu Dojo." A former police officer and lifelong Kendo practitioner, he followed his father’s legacy into the culinary world. His dignified yet gentle demeanor perfectly reflects the essence of Omotenashi (hospitality). I encourage everyone to experience the atmosphere of his Dojo.

Finally, our conversation with Mr. Sekiguchi, a salon owner in Ginza, was a highlight. He has a natural gift for brightening any room with his smile. By the time he took the stage at the end of the celebration, he was in high spirits from the festive sake—his jovial personality and beaming smile made it a truly joyful time, making everyone want to lend him a hand! His world-class technique using long golden scissors is simply spectacular. His salon in Ginza is a must-visit.
